Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government has taken an important decision to extend the tenure of traveling teachers working in the state's grant-aided schools for one more year. The appointment of traveling teachers was made for the period till March 31, 2020 but due to the current situation, the appointment of traveling teachers has been extended till March 31, 2021 as it is not appropriate to dismiss the traveling teachers.

In addition, the Gujarat government has announced that the schools will now be able to recruit a traveling teacher in a grant-aided school where standard 9 to 12 studies are conducted. The state government had started the Pravasi Shikshak Yojana in 2015 to address the shortage of teachers. Under this scheme, the traveling teacher travels and teaches a certain subject in different schools.
