Surat: High profile call center nabbed, 19 arrested, including 6 young women, 'siblings' absconding
Kirtesh Patel, Surat: The police have succeeded in speeding up the long running call center in the Jahangirpura Police Station area of the city. People were called from the call center in the name of investment and cheated with them. Police have arrested 19 people with this. However, Mehta, who runs the call center, is still out of police custody.
The PCB on Monday raided a call center on the third floor of Green Aristo Plaza, two kilometers from the Jahangirpura police station. Police have nabbed 19 people from there, including 6 young women. The arrested accused were calling people and talking about investing in a company he had created like the stock market.
This group initially made people invest and showed a small profit and later invested a large amount. In the name of investment, a group of brothers and sisters from all over the country are coming up with allegations that crores of rupees have been embezzled.
Major police action against call center.
Police seized a mobile phone and a laptop.
The call center was run by siblings, with both siblings living in a nearby apartment. Both are currently absconding. The call center operators are Master Mind Vicky Mehta and her sister Neha Mehta. PCB staff seized more than 55 mobile phones, eight laptops, four commuters, a tablet, a card sketch machine and a printer from the call center.
Many questions have been raised about the performance of the local police in capturing the call center from Jahangirpura. The call center has been operating in a rented office for the last seven months. The two siblings also provided specialized training to employed young men and women on how to talk to customers and how to invest.
Brothers and sisters used to pay 10 to 15 thousand rupees to the young men and women employed in the call center. Employees were hired by communicating to be their own corporate company.
It may be recalled that a few months back, the Crime Branch had busted a gang of money launderers by opening a call center in the name of friendship in a rented flat in Vesu on Dumas Road. Twenty people, including seven young women, were arrested at the time.
